Letter from Andrew Snape Hamond to Lord Palmerston [manuscript], 1777 May 28.

Letter from Sir Andrew Snape Hamond, Comptroller of the British Royal Navy, to Lord Henry Palmerston, written while Hamond was serving in the Roebuck in the Delaware River. The letter discuses the loss of men at Antigua and subsequent impressment of new sailors from merchant ships, and the destruction of Rebel magazines.

Henry Temple, second Viscount Palmerston (1739-1802), was a politician and traveller. He took his seat in the Irish House of Lords in 1761, but never spoke. In 1762 he was elected for the Cornish pocket borough of East Looe, but was only a very occasional speaker, preferring foreign travel to political duty.
